Doing journalism starts now

UD students start connecting with audiences as soon as possible. Take a stroll through our growing collection of journalism that makes a difference.

Journalism students cover 2016 election
UD student reporters, under the guidance of Professor Dawn Fallik, spread out across the region to cover the presidential campaign. Students had floor plasses to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in July, then went on to cover then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and former President Bill Clinton. Donald Trump turned down all requests for credentials.
https://storify.com/udfallik/blue-hens-cover-election-2016
Tiptoeing through the tulips - with a notebook
Ellie Delany covered the 2017 Philadelphia Flower Show, where an interdisciplinary team of UD students took home a silver prize in the education category. Delany's work appeared in several outlets, including The Review, Delaware Today and PHL17. Some of her favorite flowers, by the way, were the tulips - 30,000 of them at the entrance alone.

http://phl17.com/2017/03/27/the-philadelphia-flower-show-on-weekend-philler/
Spotlighting students who fill a food bank
Sarah Gibson freelanced for the Newark Post during her time as an undergraduate. One of her articles reported on "Blue Hen Bounty," a food closet run by the Episcopal Campus Ministry, a student group based in the St. Thomas Episcopal Parish on South College Avenue. The project provides food and toiletries to students in need. Her experience with the Newark Post provided necessary real-world experience to supplement her journalism classes.

http://www.newarkpostonline.com/news/article_277c54a8-fe8b-520a-8eb0-dd64df5324f9.html
